Important Information

Important information:

  • This Thursday, September 20, is picture day! Everyone will have their picture taken for the yearbook.
  • Book orders are due this Friday, September 21! If you would rather pay with a credit card, you can order your books online through the Scholastic website.
  • Next Wednesday, September 26, is an early release day.  I will be sending a note home about times soon.
  • Friday, October 5, is homecoming. Students will be released at 1:15 on this day.  Students are also allowed to wear garters or mums to school. However, we will take them off during class to ensure there are no distractions.
  • Our lunch time is from 10:45-11:15, HOWEVER, I recommend getting to the school no later than 10:40 if you are planning to eat lunch with your child.

Here are some things we will be learning about over the next few weeks.

Reading: We are working on short and long vowels, stretching out words and word families. I am finally finished testing each student, so we will also start doing guided reading groups. Your child will start bringing home books on level. Don’t forget to read every night and sign your child’s reading log.

Writing: We are focusing on what a sentence is, finger spaces, how we form our letters, penmanship and how to correctly hold a pencil. We have been writing a lot about the different books we have read.

Spelling: These are our words for the next two weeks: he, for, was, on, are, as, with, his, they, at!  We recorded the first five in our planners this week and will record the rest next Monday. We will have a spelling test next Friday over these 10 words. I will be holding them accountable for these words in their reading and writing from now on!  I do give an “authentic” spelling grade from their writing 2-3 times in a nine weeks.  This means I grade spelling words that they use when they write.

Math: We are working on ordering numbers, inequalities(><=), addition and story problems. So far we have learned about how to solve math problems by using a ten frame, number path and a 100’s chart.

Science/Social Studies: We are finishing up learning about colors. We have had a lot of fun mixing the primary colors with paint. We are starting to learn about our 5 senses this week. We will also start to learn about the season change.
