Message from Mr. Gilbert:

The district would like to inform you of an event that took place at the Intermediate School today. At about 9:45 am a small Mexican Free Tail Bat was discovered in the stairwell at the far end of the 5th grade wing. No students and/or staff member ever came in contact with the bat at any time.

The City of White Oak Animal Control was notified and dispatched to the Intermediate School. The bat was caught and removed from the building without incident.  The protocol for this situation calls for the bat to be sent to Austin where it will be checked for rabies.

School district personnel searched the area and determined no other bats were in the building. This will continue for the next few days to insure the safety of everyone at the Intermediate School.

All of this was done with little to no impact on the instructional day.

This week…

This week we will not have a spelling test.  I do not like to give new spelling words during short weeks.  However, feel free to review the words that have already been tested.  Your child will be responsible for knowing these on all future spelling tests.

This week we will continue to learn different ways to solve story problems in math.  We will continue to learn different steps of the writing process.  We will also finish up our author study on Kevin Henkes!

Important: Tomorrow your child will bring home a note describing how first grade papers are graded along with all their graded papers from the first two weeks of school.  Please look over them with your child.
